The holiday season is approaching and there is something special about the interests of writers. We gathered some unique gift suggestions for every word nerd in your life.

Support their work!

This is numero uno! The time, talent, critique, and constant rewriting put into this craft is not easy. Your support is one of the best gifts you can give any writer. If they have yet to publish—or waiting for an invoice to clear—slip a little something in their VenMo/CashApp/PayPal account.

Workshop/conference/retreat

You know that whole getting better thing? These help writers sharpen their craft. Whether online or in-person, the costs can add up pretty quickly. Lend a helping hand by paying for registration.

Office Accessories

We haven’t met a writer that doesn’t love desk accessories, from pens to staplers and fancy paper. Rae Dunn has a line with some thoughts right up our alley. And check out these cool “Writer” bookends.

Books on craft

Yes, some of us write books, but like any profession, writers are constantly learning how to get better. Books on the craft are perfect gifts. Below are a few of our faves! And don’t forget to support your local bookstores! I know online retailers are convenient, but best believe, the little guys appreciate your business much more!

More Books

You probably think that writers have enough books. The secret is, writers never have enough books. Many writers gain inspiration by reading the work of others, especially when the words aren’t flowing as easily. Nikki Giovanni said, “There is no such thing as writer's block. There is only not enough information. If you can't write, learn something.”

Help your favorite writer learn and write something new. Drop them a Gift Card to a local bookstore or an online retailer (if you must).

Notebooks

Even in a digital age, writers enjoy writing by hand. Plus it has so many cognitive benefits! It may be typical, but along with books, writers can never have enough journals and notebooks. If you’re concerned about the impact on the environment, check out these recyclable “Decomposition” notebooks.

Apparel

Writers can’t help but love clothes with words on them. Check out some really cool apparel from other writers and creatives of color that will have your writer friend or loved one beaming with pride.

Totes

Writers love a great tote bag to carry around all those books! Why not get them a tote with a statement? We suggest this Women Writers of Color Tote from Ideal BookShelf and the UNAFRAID signature tote from Jack Jones Literary Arts.

Candles

For writers, ambiance is everything. Setting the right atmosphere to write is just as important as writing. This can include everything from wine to candles. Whether you’re in line at TJ Maxx or shopping online, you cannot go wrong buying a candle for the writer in your life. Check out this Homesick Library Candle—they also have candles with state and city themes.

Mugs

Whether your writer friends experience brittle, snowy winters in Chicago or humid, beach days in Miami, they can use a hot drink in an eclectic mug. Whether tea, coffee, or a hot toddy, they will definitely love this one from Etsy, “I’m a writer, anything you say might be used in a story.”

Teas

Tea and writing go together like… well, we don’t know, but writers love tea. All teas are not created equal and real tea drinkers know the difference. Check out a few Black Owned Tea companies for the loose tea drinkers of the universe!
