grandma’s wisdom
wraps itself around me like
delicate lace
it smells like the
flowers on the magnolia tree
that bloomed
at her home each spring

her words—royal
her morals—golden
her insight —gentle
yet maintains firmness

she says to me: “Pay attention to seasons and timing. When you’re clear about this, you’ll know how to respond.”

she tells me: “The answer to every question can be found through prayer and in God’s word.”

she reminds me: “Struggles are lessons that are often passed through generations. Life has given you everything you need to master the lessons and change the generational legacy.”

her spirit
is radiant,
golden,
virtuous

her mantle
is the knowing in her spirit
the warmth of her presence
the truth wrapped in love

these are the virtues
that she
passed on
to me.
