Forts

I thought a fort was enough

To protect my heart

Mind

Soul

Body

Cracks in walls

Crevices

Still allow enemies in

Creeping to the beat

Of the drum with the music I make

I create

Breaking down the thoughts

I know to be true

False words from false prophets

Who let false theology

Rule their daily doxology

I wonder if they know

I didn’t know

My fort really wasn’t going to protect me

My fort though strong

Not indestructible

I learned the hard way

Forts are only able to stand so long

Forts made out of tears

Forts made out of food

Forts made out of drugs

Forts made out of sex

Forts made out of work

Will never stand forever

And when your fort falls

Who will pick up the pieces

When my fort fell

Who picked up the pieces
